Outdoor Lighting

First Impressions Count

Think of the exterior of your house as a visual introduction to the interior. First impressions are so important, particularly if you’re thinking of selling in the not-too-distant future.  A well-lit, freshly painted front door gives an indication of what the rest of the house will look like. Good exterior lighting creates a welcoming ambience and fulfils a practical purpose, helping you and your visitors safely negotiate your way home.

Porch lights make the biggest difference to a front door. If you’re lucky enough to have a high-ceilinged porch, make the most of it with a dramatic hanging lantern. Alternatively, two lights flanking a front door give a balanced, neat look.

Timeless and Enduring Design

We are regularly re-introducing designs from Davey’s archive as our customers love the timeless aesthetic of traditional ship’s lighting. There’s good reason the distressed, nineteenth-century industrial look is enduringly popular – it works so well on so many types of buildings. Our best-selling designs are box lights, from narrow lights to oversized pendants, as well as bracket lights for back doors and gardens. Natural metal finishes such as weathered bronze, copper and brass are the most popular as they’re low maintenance and weather beautifully. Our customers want lights that look like they’ve been part of the property for years, with a lived-in feel.

Transform Your Outdoor Space

Well-considered lighting has the power to transform your patio or garden into an atmospheric, inviting outdoor space that you’ll enjoy spending time in as well as looking at. Go for lighting that is complimentary to the building but most importantly, reflects your own style. If your interior style is contemporary within a Georgian property, follow it through with your lighting.

Outdoor lighting will also extend the sense of space from the inside – for example, lines of recessed step lights set into the lawn or decking will draw the eye out, creating the illusion of a longer space. Again, consider finishes carefully – a traditional ship’s bulkhead fitting can look very contemporary in a highly polished aluminium, or more classic in a weathered brass. Marine mast lights are another great option and can be chosen in different finishes to suit the property.
